| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: (Name and telephone of spokesperson) Local Action Planned As Part of Iraq War Moratorium A (insert type of event: rally, vigil, speech, etc.) is planned in (insert town or city) on Friday, (insert date), as part of a growing national Iraq Moratorium movement calling for an end to the war. The (type of event) will begin at (time) at (location), sponsored by (insert sponsoring organization(s)). It is one of hundreds of events and tens of thousands of individual actions being planned across the country to observe the Iraq Moratorium on the third Friday of every month. November 16 is the third in a series of monthly Moratorium days, and organizers say interest and participation are steadily growing. The Moratorium, inspired by the 1969 Vietnam Moratorium, asks people to pledge to take some individual or group action on Moratorium Day every month to show their support for withdrawal of US troops and an end to the war. "Clearly, a solid majority of the American people oppose the war, think it is a mistake, and want our troops home," Eric See, a spokesman for the national Moratorium, said. (or substitute the name of a local spokesperson.) "Every opinion poll tells us that. The Moratorium offers people a chance to translate those feelings and opinions into action, and to take some personal responsibility for ending the war." Activities suggested by the national coordinators range from rallies, marches, speeches and vigils to individual actions like wearing a black armband or antiwar button to work or school; contacting members of Congress; displaying a sign, or talking to friends and co-workers about the war. The national group also invites people to sign a pledge promising to take some action on Moratorium Day each month.
